What Do We Know about Student Mobility in Mexico?

Credit mobility among students is one of the most commonly implemented internationalization strategies among Mexican higher education institutions (HEIs), but little is known regarding the profile of participants and how their backgrounds propel or hamper their chances of going abroad during their studies. A survey reveals that credit mobility in Mexico seems to be an option only for a very small group of privileged students. Nevertheless, statistics also reveal that, to a certain degree, public HEIs have been successful in compensating the lack of mobility and financial capital with well-resourced internationalization offices that make study abroad possible for less affluent members of the student body.
